In this trailer for Crawl, when Haley Keller (Kaya Scodelario) returns home to find her dad (Barry Pepper) and evacuate from their town in the face of a Category 5 hurricane, she finds him injured.
How could anyone forget 2010’s wildly hilarious gore-fest “Piranha 3D” and its gross-out buffet of dismembered spring-breakers? Don’t anticipate a comparable dose of gory schlock flood in the white-knuckled gator movie“Crawl” from the same director. Instead, expect a tone anchored somewhere between a relentless thriller with various satisfying (if not predictable) jolts and a summer flick that only tentatively dips its toes into deliberate silliness, scared to fully go into the water.
You might at times find yourself wishing that French filmmaker (“”) had gone all out for something that approaches the campy amusements of “Piranha 3D.” Nonetheless, “Crawl” has a reptilian bite in its nods to the tradition of underwater monster flicks. It’s certainly not “” (what is?), or even “,” but sloshing around the hazardous deluge of a Southwest Florida town on the brink of devastation by a Category 5 hurricane comes with its own kicks. In direr news, Aja spends too much time in the ghastly and by all accounts, nasty basement—you desperately want to go outside where greater dangers surely await. Scodelario seems game for the punishing conditions however. She basically Kate Winslet-s her way through those unsafe pipes like a resilient passenger of the ill-fated “” as the entire world sinks around her. Don’t ask how she implausibly manages to keep all her limbs in tact however, after being the object of various severe bites and savage captures throughout.
Against all logic, the competitive swimmer, Haley, drives into the mouth of a furiously destructive Category 5 hurricane on a collision course with her hometown of Florida, to check in on her estranged father, Dave. There, in their weather-beaten house amid a rapidly sinking and alligator-infested town, Haley and her father find themselves trapped in the labyrinthine mess of their flooded crawl space, where a merciless pair of six-metre predators is silently stalking them. Now-as Haley and Dave are gasping for air in the claustrophobic basement-only their will to survive can help them stand a chance against the scaly adversaries' powerful jaws. Can they escape without getting eaten alive?
Crawl is a new horror thriller directed by Alexandre Aja, the director of The Hills Have Eyes and Piranha 3D. In the film, a huge category 5 hurricane is racing through Florida. Despite the hurricane, Haley Keller (Kaya Scodelario) ignores the evacuation step-by-step plan to find her missing father Dave (Barry Pepper).
She finds her father seriously injured in her parental home, where he finds himself in the crawl space to shelter during the hurricane.Due to the rapidly rising water they both get stuck in the house and now have to find a way out quickly before the hurricane gets worse. Apart from the dangers of the hurricane, the two learn that alligators with the current have also invaded their homes. Dave and Haley must now leave the house before the storm reaches its peak and stay away from the hungry alligators.
This film comes across as a mix between the films Jaws and The Day After Tomorrow, but unfortunately Crawl does not really have the quality of these films and looks more like a mix between Lake Placid and Into the Storm. Although this film does not have the quality of films such as Jaws, this film is told in such a serious way. This serious way does not work thanks to the stupid unbelievable way in which the story is told, because the main characters always know how to survive everything even though they have been bitten by an alligator. The characters also make many stupid mistakes, making the situations only dangerous for themselves. This movie is so entertaining if you don't think too much about the situations or events and just try to enjoy it. The best in the film is the band between the two main characters.
Kaya Scodelario and Barry Pepper appear credible as father and daughter. The rest of the cast serve more as extra characters in this film that can be attacked and killed by the alligators.
